BIGGA Management Short Courses

BIGGA Scottish Region LogoSt Andrews Management Centre has partnered with BIGGA Scotland to develop a programme of CPD courses specifically designed for the modern Green keeping and Course Manager.

Tackling Leadership, People Management, Project & Budget Management, Customer Service Excellence and Communication Skills, these courses  build on prior knowledge and experience and equip delegates to meet the challenges of the contemporary golf industry. All courses are CPD accredited under the BIGGA scheme.

Each course is delivered through a blend of teaching and highly interactive individual and group exercises. Through participating in discussions and exercises delegates will be able to apply their learning directly to their own role and/or club.


Leadership Skills

Session 1: Understanding Leadership (1 day)

This course was designed to give delegates an introduction to leadership. Delegates will gain an understanding of the range and styles of leadership and how these are applied to situations in the workplace. The blend of teaching, group & individual activities and discussion, will allow delegates to determine their own leadership styles and learn how to apply these to their own club.

On completion of the course delegates will:

  • Understand Leadership styles
  • Understand leadership qualities and review own leadership qualities and potential
Session 2: Understand How to Establish an Effective Team (1 day)

This course gives delegates an insight into the importance of working with an effective team and how to develop key working relationships. Delegates will also explore the models and mechanisms behind team construction, dynamics and performance. The course delivery will be blend of teaching; individual and team exercises as well as group discussions to allow delegates to determine the tools and techniques to make an effective team, and how these can be applied to their own club.

On completion of this course delegates will:

  • Understand how to develop and maintain effective working relationships
  • Understand how to build an effective team

 


People Management

Session 1: Developing Yourself and Others (1/2 Day)

The purpose of this course is for delegates to explore their own development needs by applying a variety of tools and techniques to their current role and career aspirations.

Delegates will develop their understanding of the importance of developing others within the team, and the positive impacts on their club. The course delivery will be a blend of teaching and exercises to allow delegates to utilise tools and techniques that will assist in identifying their development needs.

On completion of this course delegates will:

  • Know how to identify self-development needs
  • Know how to develop self and others to achieve club objectives.
Session 2: Understanding Conflict Management in the Workplace (1/2 Day)

This course will give delegates an understanding of the cause and effects of conflict, and how to manage the negative and positive aspects of conflict. The course delivery will be a blend of teaching, individual & team exercises, and group discussions to allow delegates to explore the nature of conflict and how to apply conflict resolution techniques within their club.

On completion of this course delegates will:

  • Understand conflict management in the workplace

 

Projects & Budgets

Session 1: Understanding Costs & Budgets in an Organisation (1 Day)

The purpose of this course is for delegates to develop a practical understanding of the principle of cost control and budgets, and in particular how these can be applied to activities within a club environment. The course delivery will be a blend of teaching and practical exercises to ensure understanding.

On completion of this course delegates will:

  • Understand budgets within an organisation
  • Understand costs within an organisation
Session 2: Managing Workplace Projects (1 Day)

The purpose of this course is for delegates to develop a practical understanding of the principles of project management, and in particular how these can be applied to activities within a club environment. The course delivery will be a blend of teaching and exercises to allow delegates to utilise project management techniques that will assist in contributing to project development within their club.

On completion of this course delegates will:

  • Know how to manage a simple workplace project
  • Understand the financial and non-financial implications of a workplace project.

 


Customer Service

Understanding & Satisfying Customer Requirements (1 day)

The purpose of this unit is to develop the delegates awareness of the importance of customer service in a club environment. The course delivery will be a blend of teaching and exercises to allow delegates to understand the types of customers, their needs and wants, and how this knowledge can impact their own clubs.

On completion of the course delegates will be able to:

  • Identify internal and external customers and how their needs are identified
  • Understand customer service standards and how to satisfy customer requirements
  • Explain how service level agreements and customer satisfaction levels are set and monitored and legalities associated with customer service
  • Know how to monitor customer service performance, by interpreting feedback and simple performance indicators
  • Outline actions that can be taken to address performance in meeting customer needs. 

 


Communication Skills

Giving Briefings and Making Presentations (1½ day)

This course will introduce delegates to the rudiments of giving a briefing and/or making a presentation. The course delivery will be a blend of teaching and practical exercises to allow delegates to practice their presentation and briefing skills that will enable them to confidently present information at club meetings and events.

Upon completion of the course delegates will:

  • Be able to plan a briefing or presentation
  • Be able to conduct and briefing or presentation
  • Be able to evaluate a briefing or evaluation
